Filming The White Lotus: locations and how to visit
Most prestige dramas leave you with nowhere to go but a backlot. This one does the opposite: each season unfolds inside a genuine luxury resort, which makes it the rare show whose principal set you can actually book a room in. The appeal for travellers is wonderfully simple, the glamour, the views and the poolside drama all belong to real hotels.
Season by season the production has moved across the map. In Taormina, on the coast of Sicily in Italy, the cliff-top San Domenico Palace, a former convent, plays the resort itself, while the ancient Teatro Antico di Taormina and the little reserve of Isola Bella anchor the surrounding scenes. The first season was filmed at the Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea on the island of Maui in the United States, and the third at the hillside Four Seasons Resort Koh Samui above the Gulf of Thailand.
The obvious move is to stay where the cameras did, though these are top-tier addresses, so many fans simply visit Taormina for the day to see the theatre and Isola Bella, or build a wider Sicily, Hawaii or Thailand trip around a single splurge night. Whichever season you favour, book well ahead, demand has climbed sharply since each location aired.
