Where was Sherlock filmed?

Sherlock reinvented the world's most famous detective for a contemporary London, and its sharp, restless take on the city sent fans straight to the streets where its mysteries unfold. Two locations in particular have become essential stops: the door of a famous flat and the rooftop of one unforgettable cliffhanger.

Both sit in London. A Georgian terrace on North Gower Street stands in for 221B Baker Street, with Speedy's café below doubling as the detective's downstairs neighbour, the most recognisable address in the whole series. Across the city, the roof of the historic St Bartholomew's Hospital is where the detective staged his shocking fall at the end of the second series.

For set-jetters, both are easy to fold into a day exploring central London on foot. North Gower Street and St Bartholomew's Hospital are working parts of the living city rather than sets, so visitors should be considerate of residents and patients, but a Sherlock-themed walk slots neatly alongside the capital's wider sights.
