Where was Peaky Blinders filmed?

A family of ambitious, dangerous gangsters claws its way up through the smoke of post-war Birmingham. The show's grimy streets were largely rebuilt at a Black Country living museum and in the warehouse districts of Liverpool, both of which you can walk through today.

Filming Peaky Blinders: locations and how to visit

Peaky Blinders made the smoke and swagger of post-war Birmingham irresistible, and its hard-edged style sent fans hunting for the streets where the Shelby family schemed and brawled. The surprise for many is that the show's grimy industrial world wasn't built on a backlot but recreated in places you can wander through today.

Much of that world took shape at the Black Country Living Museum in the Birmingham and Black Country area, an open-air museum whose cobbled streets, canal and old workshops were dressed as Shelby-era Birmingham, including the gang's haunts in the Garrison quarter. The smoky factory exteriors and waterfront scenes were shot at Stanley Dock in Liverpool, where the towering brick Tobacco Warehouse and the cobbled dock road give the city its on-screen menace.

For set-jetters, both are genuine attractions rather than closed sets. The Black Country Living Museum is built for visitors, with costumed interpreters bringing the period to life, while Liverpool's docklands reward a wander on foot. Pairing the two makes an atmospheric West Midlands-to-Merseyside loop through the show's real backbone.
