A legendary Norse farmer rises to fame and power as a raider and ruler, dragging his family and his gods into a brutal age of expansion. Much of it was filmed in Ireland, where a dark, tea-coloured lake in the Wicklow Mountains stood in for the settlement of Kattegat.
