Filming The Witcher: locations and how to visit
The Witcher built a sprawling, war-torn fantasy world out of monster hunts, sorcery and tangled destinies, and part of its appeal is how grounded those badlands and battlefields feel. That texture comes from filming in genuinely dramatic landscapes, from a craggy Polish ruin to the volcanic uplands of the Canary Islands.
In southern Poland, the dramatic ruined Ogrodzieniec Castle, perched on its rocky outcrop, staged the pivotal Battle of Sodden Hill in the first season. Far to the south-west, in Spain's Canary Islands, Gran Canaria's volcanic monolith of Roque Nublo and the pine-clad highlands around it form the otherworldly badlands the characters cross.
For set-jetters, the two could hardly be more different, which is half the fun. Ogrodzieniec is a popular ruined castle on Poland's Trail of the Eagles' Nests, while Roque Nublo is a much-loved hiking landmark in the heart of Gran Canaria. Each rewards a visit in its own right, letting fans chase the show across two very distinct corners of Europe.
