Coronado is the real Fightertown of the film: the base scenes were shot at Naval Air Station North Island, and the beach bar known as the Hard Deck was built for the shoot on the sand at Breaker's Beach on the Coronado shore.
How to visit
The naval air station itself is a working base and closed to visitors, but Coronado is easy to reach by ferry or the bridge from downtown San Diego. Walk the wide beach by the Hotel del Coronado, then look across the bay to the carriers and jets that give the town its call sign.
